"Sara Watson is a chef, restaurateur, and a mother of four. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and completed an apprenticeship in the professional kitchen at Keystone Ranch in Colorado. Eventually, Sara and her husband Eric moved from Colorado to Fargo. Together they ran a successful catering business and operated three restaurants including Maxwells, Mezzaluna, and Rustica. Sara opened Blackboard near Vergas, Minnesota in 2020. She resides in Moorehead, MN." Sara explains her inspiration for the cookbook was recipes she could try at the cabin. We think she checked every box with meals you want to enjoy with family and friends while paying homage to sentimental memories of the lake.
This cookbook is a delight to anyone who uses the best of what the seasons have to offer when cooking. We love that is organized by season, starting in Spring with recipes like Creamy Asparagus Soup with fennel, tarragon, and lemon zest, Prosciutto Wrapped Halibut dusted with fennel pollen. The Summer section is filled with bright recipes: Cucumber Salad with grilled lemon and celery salt and Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes with caper remoulade and carrot dill sauce. Is your mouth watering yet? As the scenic photography in the book changes to fall, the recipes warm up with Maple Sausage Stuffed Apples to be served with pork chops and Roast Corn and Goat Cheese Stuffing. To wrap up into Winter the meals become hearty with Cowboy Ribeye with Balsamic Glazed Cipollini Onions and Kale, Cabbage, and Spinach Gratin.
